Valentine’s Day Envelope Card Two Different Ways

Glowforge/laser cutting machine:

Supplies:

  1. Wood, I used 3mm thick birch wood.
  2. Glue. I used wood glue, but a super glue like Gorilla glue would also work well.
  3. Glowforge or other laser cutting machine
  4. My design which can be found for free in my library (If you do not have the password, then click here first)

Steps:

  1. Cut out my design.

2.  I did a score line for the lines around the front of my envelope. I did an engraving for the other details on my envelope. I cut the two hearts outs. You can pick different settings/commands particularly for the engraving and score areas.

3. Assemble/glue pieces together. I applied wood glue on both sides of the middle section of this piece and placed the other two pieces accordingly.

4. You can cut a second middle spacer layer if you want to put a thicker note inside and make it easier to remove and insert.

5. Once assembled I placed some weight on my piece while it dried, because my wood was a little misshapen.

Cricut envelope:

Supplies:

  1. Cardstock
  2. Cricut pen (other pens can also work)
  3. White craft glue with thin tip
  4. Double sided tape
  5. Cricut machine (other cutting machines can also be used)
  6. Blue Cricut light grip mat
  7. Optional: glitter iron on and an iron
  8. Optional: foil and Cricut foil tool
  9. My design which can be found for free in my library (If you do not have the password, then click here first)

Steps:

  1. Download my design from my library, then upload it into design space. Click here if you need help uploading a design into design space. The screen may look a little different.

2. Make sure everything is sized correctly and if not, then size it all together. I made the largest back piece of my envelope 5.5 inches tall, but you can make yours smaller or larger if you want.

3. Click ungroup in the upper right hand side of the screen.

4. You can hide or delete the spacer piece unless you want to make it out of craft board, foam or other similar items. I did not use this piece for my cardstock version.

5. If needed send the background piece to the back by clicking arrange, send to back. Then change the color to a lighter color or the color you wish your finished piece to be.

6. Click each section of the design and change it to the setting you would like. For example, I changed the “I LOVE YOU” to pen so my Cricut machine would use a pen to draw this piece. I give more in depth information on this in my video. I cut out the cursive love on glitter iron on, I had a pen draw the I LOVE YOU and the stamps on the sides, I used my foil tool to foil the outline around my envelope, and cut the small heart out at the top.

7. Attach all sections of pieces together. If something is not where it should be when you go to make the project, then go back and make sure it is attached.

8. Make all the pieces and follow the instructions on your screen. If you use iron on vinyl, then make sure to click the mirror option before you make it.

9. Place a heat pad or towel under your cardstock, and place your iron on where you want it. Place a butcher paper or Teflon sheet over everything for more protection.

10. Place easy press or small iron on piece for short amounts of time (5 sec.) and at a lower temperature. Keep applying and removing the heat until your iron on is on your cardstock.

11. Place a flat heavy book or similar object on top of your card to keep the cardstock flat while it cools.

12. Apply a think line of white craft glue around the edge of your envelope and place the front of your envelop on top of the glue. Set it aside to dry.

Notes and stickers:

Supplies:

  1. Cardstock
  2. Glue. I used a white glue with a thin tip nozzle.
  3. Pen/marker that will fit inside your machine. You could also do a print then cut, which would require a printer instead of the marker.
  4. Double sided tape
  5. A scoring stylus or scoring wheel.
  6. Cricut machine or other similar machines.
  7. My design which can be found for free in my library (If you do not have the password, then click here first)

Steps:

  1. Download my design from my library, then upload it into design space. Click here if you need help uploading a design into design space. The screen may look a little different.
  2. Chang the center lines to score lines.

3. Make sure everything is sized correctly and if not, then size it all together. Select all the pieces inside when you size your piece so it all changes to the new size together. It is a lot easier than trying to size each piece separately. I made the 4 piece note 7 inches wide, the stickers 1.2 inches wide and high, and the note 2 piece note 5.36 inches tall.

4.. Select the score lines and the larger piece they go with and select attach.

5. For the sticker hide (click the eye on the right side) the outer most circle, then change it from basic cut to a pen (upper left). Then unhide the outer most circle.

6. Select the entire sticker (even the outer circle) and hit attached.

7. Click make it and select your material settings accordingly. I like to use more pressure for most material. I used 80 lb cardstock for my material setting, but this may be different for you depending on the materials you use.

8. Glue the square onto the notes.

9. Fold the notes on the score lines.

10. apply double sided tape to back of stickers.

11. Place stickers on notes.

I really like how both cards turned out. You will have to let me know which one is your favorite. I would also love to see how you make this! Also check out my other Valentine’s Day cards I have made. I also provide you the files to make them for Free in my Library. Lace Heart Card and LOVE Card
