Supplies:

1. 2 part resin. For this small piece I got my resin from Dollar Tree. Make sure to get both part A and B. Make sure to be in a well ventilated area and wear gloves when working with resin.
2. Mica powders (these are not transparent so I recommend using in small amounts)
3. Resin dye (some are transparent and some are not, so make sure to check)
4. Crushed glass (You can color it with gallery glass)
5. DuraClear gloss varnish. I used the DecoArt brand.
6. Gallery glass
7. Clear acrylic for the back. You could also use glass or other clear materials.
8. Black acrylic, that I cut on my Glowforge laser. You can also make your own lines with leaded gallery glass, puffy paint (do not use a cheap brand and test before using), or Pebeo outliner.

Steps:

1. Cut acrylic to make base and frame or use items listed in supply list number 8 to create your frame. If you cut your acrylic, then you will need to apply a thin layer of resin to both the base (clear acrylic) and the frame (black acrylic) and let them cure in place. Make sure to remove one side on the protective layer on the clear acrylic base layer. Keep the other protective layer on the very back until you are completely finished with your project.

2. Add different colors and even different elements to the different sections. I tested different elements, but you could use all the same if you like one better. Watch my YouTube video to see how the different elements I used turned out to help you decide what you would like to use for yours. You can use a paper towel to clean up any areas the leak or dripped into other section.

3. Let everything fully dry, then remove the protective backing on your clear acrylic back layer. Add a ribbon or something to hand it and enjoy all the beautiful colors.

This piece turned out absolutely beautiful. I thought I would love some elements but not others, but I love all the different elements. I like that some are more transparent than others. Even some of my mistakes (not mixing in my mica powders enough) make this pieces more unique and interesting to look at. I also wanted to use a lot of different elements to show you how each one looks next to others. This will help you decide which elements you may want to use and which ones you may not want to use for your piece. I know resin can be very intimidating to people, but I find the Dollar Tree resin very easy to work with. If you want to make a similar project with kids, then are other none resin elements you can use, which also give a similar look.
