Supplies:
- Modeling Paste
- Canvas
- Rounded spatula or other similar shape item (you could even cut a thick piece of cardboard to use)
- Black paint
- Paint brush. A smaller and a larger paint brush would be good.
- Air dry clay.
- Silicon bow mold.
- Pink paint or color of paint you would like for your bows.
- Thin tip black sharpie.
Steps:
1. Paint your canvas black. You will probably need to apply 2 coats.
2. Place air dry clay inside bow molds. Remove any extra clay and set it aside to fully dry and harden. When the clay is fully dry and hard, remove it from the mold and paint it in your desired colors. Make sure to also paint the sides of the bows.
3. Scoop out a small blob of modeling paste with your spatula or other rounded object. Then lightly place it on your canvas and pull it down. Make different sizes in both thickness and height.
4. Place small amounts of modeling paste on either side of a ghost to create dog ears and one small mound for the dog nose. To make cats I dragged the modeling paste up with a pointy spatula, sometimes extra modeling paste helps. Do not forget to add your bows. You can also wait for everything to dry and then use hot glue or other types of glue to glue the bows on. One advantage to waiting for everything to dry and then gluing on the bows is that you can use the bows to hide and major cracks or imperfections.
5. Use the end of a paint brush and dip it into some black paint. Then use the back side to create nice even eyes for your ghosts. You can also use a black marker like a sharpie, but I found the paint brush end works best for nice round or oblong eyes and even mouths. The thin tip sharpie works well for making a cat face/mouth.
At first I did not see the big hype for this ghost canvas. Now that I created my own and added my own twist and personality to it, I really love it! I like that not all of my ghosts are the same. They each have their own personality, which is what I think really makes this piece. You could make each ghost special with a bow or mouth or make them special and more sporadic like I did. It almost makes it like a where’s Waldo, but instead find the different/special ghosts. I also really like the bows and how they add just a little bit more color to the piece, I know this will not be for everyone, but that is the beauty of this piece, you can pick and choose what you want to add or not add. I just gave you more possibilities I have not seen anyone else do.
