Supplies:
- Cardstock. Thinner cardstock or even crape paper is best for the honey comb heart.
- Craft glue. I used Barely Art.
- Cutting machine and/or cutting tool.
- My file for this card can be found in my Free library.
Steps:
1. Make sure the design is sized correctly. I made my car a 5×7. Make sure the large rectangle is 10×7 if this is also the size you would like your card to be. Sometimes the design gets resized when it is downloaded and uploaded. You can also change each piece to your desired colors and make you cutting machine cut out each piece. You can also cut out the pieces by hand or with a hand cutting tool.
2. Fold your card base in half (you can have your machine create this fold for you or just fold it by hand).
3. Use glue or use double sided tape to attach the larger rectangle to the top portion of the front of your card. Then glue the smaller rectangle to the lower portion of the front of your card. Use the strip to cover the seam between these two pieces.
4. Finish the front of the card with the two hearts or a sentiment.
5. For the honeycomb heart fold each heart piece in half.
6. Apply a line of glue to the inside of your folded hearts as shown in the picture below. A strip at the top, bottom, and middle or your hearts. Do not apply glue to the end/edge or it might seep out
7. Allow them to dry. You may want to place clips or heavy books on top of each piece as it dries.
8. Glue each half heart together by apply glue to opposite areas from step 6. See the picture below. Placing trees under heavy items to dry each time.
9. Once all heart pieces are glued together and fully dry, carefully pull the two end hearts back to see the fun honeycomb accordion shape. Add more hearts if needed. Glue the to end hearts to the inside of your card and keep it closed until it has fully dried. Then open and reveal your fun surprise.
I really like the front of this card. It is elegant and can be used for many different types or occasions of cards. The accordion heart inside is a fun surprise. It does make the card quite bulky. So, I would not recommend trying to mail this card or it will probably need extra postage. I used a standard 85lb cardstock, but I think a thinner cardstock or even the crape paper might be better. It would make the pieces open and bend more as well as make it not as bulky.
I used 16 hearts to make the heart inside my card. If you glued more together, then you could make the hearts touch, thus making a fun hanging decor piece. I also think the heart looks more like a balloon, but I think with the holiday and theme of the card the receiver will see the heart it is meant to be.
