Easy Way To Color Glass And Make Solar Lights

  1. Glass container or glass light fixture. Must be oven safe.
  2. Mod Podge. I like glossy, but mat would also work.
  3. Food coloring.
  4. Parchment paper
  5. Container to mix mod podge and food color in.
  6. Something to mix you mod podge and food color together.
  7. Optional: Solar light from Dollar Tree
  8. Optional: Metal wire to hang solar light from.
  9. Optional: Container to put fairy garden pieces in as well as fairy garden pieces.

1.Put a good amount of mod podge (the amount will depend on the size of your glass piece) in a container and add a few drops of food coloring. You can mix food coloring colors to create different colors and shades.

2. Mix the food coloring and mod podge together until it is well blended and you are happy with the color. The color will look different when it is dry. The mod podge is white when it is wet, and will turn clear when it is dry, which will affect your color mixture.

3. Pour mod podge and food coloring mixture into your glass container. Slowly rotate and tilt your glass container till the mixture coats every area of your glass.

4. Place container upside down and let the extra mod podge drip out for about an hour or until no more mod podge mixture is coming out, but before the mod podge starts to dry (become clear).

5. Place container upside down on a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Then place it in the oven at about 250 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour.

6. Optional: Tie wire around top of glass container to hand it. Apply hot glue around the lip of the glass container and place solar light.

Do not drink out of these containers as they have glue on them. I would not put them in the dishwasher. I recommend not using old mod podge like I did so it moves easier and quicker, and does not contain chunks that just slide. Also be careful if you use any type of brush to move the mod podge mixture in areas that might have gotten missed. The brush will create small bubbles. Play around with different types of glass containers you have laying around. See if you can add a solar light to the glass container, or add some plants to the container. It would be really pretty to make different colored solar lights like this and hang them in your back yard. You can try to swirl different colors like I did with my vase jar. Just have fun with it.
