Supplies:
- Modeling Paste
- Canvas. Mine was 12×12
- Acrylic paint
- palette knives of different shapes and sizes.
- Containers to mix modeling paste and paint colors in. Some containers with lids is best. The ones I used came from Dollar Tree.
Steps:
1. Paint your canvas. This may need more than one coat of paint.
2. Place modeling paste into your smaller containers. Mix your acrylic paint into the containers. The paint color will become lighter. Be careful not to add to much acrylic paint that your mixture becomes to liquid.
3. Use a palette knife to create flowers and leaves all over your canvas. Different palette knives will create different shapes and thus different flowers. Watch my YouTube video to see how I made my different flowers and leaves. Make sure to scoop more modeling paste onto your palette knife for each petal and wipe off the edges of your palette knife before applying it to your canvas.
4. Add the centers to your flowers after they have had a little time to dry. I used a palette knife and dabbed the centers of my flowers with the yellow modeling paste to create the centers of my flowers.
5. Allow everything to fully dry over night. If any area as creaked, apply a little of that color modeling paste over the crack to fill it in.
This project seems very intimidating, but it is actually very forgiving. You do not have to make perfect flowers. My rose was just a blob of modeling paste that I made some swirls in with my spatula, but yet it still looks pretty and like a rose. Flowers are not perfect, which means yours do not have to be either. Mine certainly were not perfect.
This would be a fun project to do with a group. It would make you jump in and give it a try instead of being intimidated and never starting it. It would also be fun to see and learn from each other how to make different flowers. Just changing the colors will really make a big difference in the look and feel of each piece.
