Supplies:
- Small tera cotta pot
- Plastic ornament
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush and/or sponge brush
- Paint markers
- Hot glue or other type of glue
- Permanent vinyl
- Any Cricut machine or other similar cutting machine
- Weeding tools
- Varnishing tool
- Transfer tape
- My face designs
- Optional: additional decorative pieces, like a bow or clay sprinkles to glue on to give more dimension
Steps:
1. Drawl lines with a paint marker on the tera cotta pot to make it look like an ice cream cone. If you do not like the lines, then you can skip this step. My lines could have been better.
2. Remove the metal top piece of the ornament and paint it red.
3. Paint your plastic ornament (if it is not already colored) in the color of your favorite ice cream flavor or the color you want your ice cream to be. This will take a few coats of paint. The paint will apply better once the first layer is dry.
4. Add ice cream drippings down and around your terra cotta pot if desired.
5. While your paint is drying select and arrange your face for your ice cream. I made the pieces easy to move around so you can create your own faces as well.
6. Measure and size you face all together by selecting all the features and sizing everything together.
7. Use your Cricut machine to cut out all of your face pieces. Do not worry about the small white dots inside the eyes. We will fill those in later with a paint marker.
8. Weed out (remove) any unwanted areas of your vinyl. Then use transfer tape to help place your vinyl onto your ornament. It might help to place your ornament inside your terra cotta pot to determine where to place your face. It also helps to make slits along the edges of your transfer tape when placing vinyl on a curved surface.
9. Add extra details to your ice cream. I used white paint to make whip cream at the top. Once the white paint was dry I used my paint markers to put some sprinkles on my ice cream.
10. Glue the ornament inside the terra cotta pot, and place the metal top back on the ornament.
This little ice cream turned out so cute. I made mine pink, because strawberry is my favorite ice cream flavor. What is your favorite ice cream flavor? I do not put whip cream or sprinkles on my ice cream, but it looked cute on the ornament. If you do not want to hang this ice cream cone on a tree, then you could flip the plastic ornament upside down so the hanging piece is hidden inside the terra cotta pot. Then you could place it on a display stand maybe in a sweets or summer theme instead of just on a Christmas tree.
