Supplies:
- Pumpkin. Make sure there is no Styrofoam in your pumpkin or other materials that might melt. I used two wool pumpkins from Dollar Tree.
- HTV (heat transfer vinyl or iron on vinyl). I used pink, white, and black.
- Easy press mini or other small heat source.
- Any Cricut machine or other similar cutting machines.
- Weeding tools
- Green standard grip mat.
- Heat resistant tape.
- Ruler
- Teflon sheet or butcher paper. Something to create an extra barrier between your fabric pumpkin and the iron.
- My face designs which you can find in my shop.
- Optional: bows, flowers, and other additional accessories you might want to add.
Steps:
1. Mix and match faces till you are happy with the faces you have. Resize things and delete or hide pieces you do not want to use. Change colors if desire.
2. Measure pumpkins and determine size of faces. Then size up or down your face all together till it matches your measured size.
3. Cut out HTV pieces. Follow instructions for your specific HTV. Most HTV requires you to mirror your image and lay the shying carrier sheet side down on the green standard grip mat. I used the the iron on setting with more pressure.
- You can select like colors in a face and click attach to keep the spacing of the face the same and the pieces together. If you do not attach like colors, then your Cricut machine will place the pieces in what it thinks will save the most vinyl, which will make a little more work for you. Either way is good. Just decide if time or saving vinyl is more important to you.
4. Trim down and weed out the unwanted areas of your design.
5. Preheat pumpkin on medium setting if using a Cricut easy press mini for 5 seconds with a Teflon sheet over the pumpkin to help protect it.
6. Place HTV on pumpkin. I recommend starting with the black layer, then once that is heated and adhered you can add the additional colors one at a time. You can use heat resistant tape to help the HTV stay on the rounded surface of the pumpkin. It is okay to have pieces of your design over the indentations on the pumpkin, just make sure to get your iron in there.
7. Place Teflon sheet over your design to help protect the rest of the pumpkin not covered by the transfer sheet.
8. If using a Cricut easy press mini, then set it to medium and constantly move it over your design for about 30 seconds. Let it cool to the touch before peeling back the transfer sheet to see if it adhered. Replace the transfer sheet and Teflon sheet and apply addition heat if needed. If helps if you flatten your pumpkin down as you apply the heat.
9. Once all of your HTV is applied you can add any additional accessories like a bow or flower to your pumpkin.
These pumpkins turned out so cute! The faces really make them. You could also add sayings, or designs like leaves or spiders all around your pumpkin as well. I think kids would have a lot of fun playing with them. They could be used as decorations or place settings. There is just so much you can do with these fun faces, and I have added more to my shop file. I have added these to hot chocolate mugs, s’mores, and planters. I have plans to use them in at least two more projects coming up. So, make sure you come back to see what other fun things I have in store.
