Supplies for Katie’s Textured Egg:

1. Wood egg from Dollar Tree or other item you would like to place design on.
2. Baking soda
3. Acrylic paint
4. Paint brush
5. Bowl to mix baking soda and paint in
6. Stencil
7. Optional: Blue painters’ tape to help hold down stencil or gloves to protect your hands from getting paint on them.

Steps for Katie’s Textured Egg:

1. Make or buy a stencil. If you are interested in making your own stencil with a Cricut machine, then you can learn how here.

2. Place stencil and apply tape to hold it down if you would like. I just held my stencil with my hands because I did not mind getting my fingers messy.

3. Mix baking soda with your acrylic paint. I did not measure this, I just added baking soda till it made my paint quite thick and chunky. See video for consistency.

4. Use an up and down dabbing motion to apply baking soda and paint mixture to your stencil. You can apply multiple colors if you would like.

5. Carefully remove stencil while it is still wet so it does not stick. Then wait for it to fully dry.

Supplies for Fernando’s Bunny Wreath:

1. A circular piece of cardboard or a wreath form.
2. White or cream-colored rope or thick yarn.
3. Hot glue gun and glue sticks.
4. Wooden beads wreath from Dollar Tree (for the bunny ears).
5. Red and white checkered ribbon (for the bow). The one I used came from Dollar Tree.
6. Scissors
7. Pliers

Steps for Fernando’s Bunny Wreath:

1. Cut two circular rings out of cardboard to form the wreath base. You can do this by drawing two circles on the cardboard (e.g., an outer circle with a 12-inch diameter and an inner circle with an 8-inch diameter) and cutting out the inner circle.

2. Glue the two cardboard pieces to make it sturdy enough to hold the weight of the rope and decorations.

3. Securing one end of the rope to the cardboard ring with a dab of hot glue.

4. Begin wrapping the rope tightly around the cardboard. Add a small dab of hot glue every few wraps to keep the rope in place.

5. Continue wrapping until the entire cardboard ring is covered. Once you reach the end, cut the rope and secure the end with hot glue. I wrapped my cardboard twice to insure all of the cardboard was completely covered by the rope.

6. Using a pair of pliers or wire cutters, carefully cut the beaded wreath at one point to break the circle. Then, find the midpoint of the resulting strand and cut it again, dividing it into two equal halves. Each half will become one bunny ear.

7. Take one half of the beaded strand and gently bend it into a slight curve to resemble a bunny ear. Then use your pliers to close the opening. You may need to remove one bead in order to close the shape. Repeat this process with the other half to create the second ear. If the beads are loose or the shape doesn’t hold, you can add a small dab of hot glue between the beads to secure them in the desired shape.

8. Position the beaded ears at the top of the wreath, slightly angled outward to look like bunny ears. Use hot glue to attach the base of each ear to the rope-wrapped wreath. Hold them in place until the glue sets. You can also tie the ends of the string/wire around the wreath for extra security.

9. Cut a piece of red and white checkered ribbon. Tie the ribbon into a bow with two loops and two tails. Trim the ends of the tails at an angle for a neat look.

10. Use hot glue to attach the bow to the bottom of the wreath, directly opposite the bunny ears. You can also use a small piece of wire to secure the bow to the wreath if needed. Feel free to place your bow or other decorations like flowers on your wreath as you like.

11. If you’d like to hang the wreath, attach a loop of string or ribbon to the back of the wreath using hot glue. You could also hang the bunny wreath by the ears.

My textured egg was such a simple and easy project, but I really love how it turned out! It is elegant and has lots of different textures. I liked how my husband got creative with his beaded wreath and did not keep it in its original shape. You could also paint the wooden beads or use beads in a color that matches your decor. He also used recycled rope from an old outdoor swing my mom had. It shows you can make beautiful things with supplies around you.
