Supplies:
- Wire knit craft kit
- Scissors
- lighter or a source for flame
- Optional: glue
Steps:
1. Decide what design you would like to make and decide what color or colors you would like to use.
2. Remove the white center from all of your colors you will be using.
3. Feed the wire through the now empty center of each of your color knit rope. You can do this step after you have bent your wire, but I found it easy to do it first. The instructions provide both options.
4. Use a flame to melt the knit rope and pinch the end with the needle nose pliers to close one end.
5. Use your fingers and the needle nose pliers that were provided to bend the wrapped wire according to your selected design. I found it easier to use my fingers for most of the bending and manipulation of the wire. I used the needle nose pliers for the sharp bends. This may take a little practice to get a feel for it.
- Wrap the needle nose pliers ends in the provided tape to prevent getting the knit rope dirty when pressing it.
6. Use the inside of the needle nose pliers to cut the extra wire, then use scissors to cut the extra knit rope.
7. Use a flame to melt the knit rope and pinch the end with the needle nose pliers to close this end.
8. If you are doing multiple colors, then repeat this process until all pieces are finished and use glue to attach them if needed.
I was surprised how easy it was to bend and manipulate this wire with my hands. It looked thick, but it was very easy to work with. I thought it was a little bit of a pain to remove the white center piece from the color knit rope, but the rest of the kit was easy. I was surprised it also included the needle nose pliers which was nice.
These pieces would be cute on a fabric basket or as well décor in a child’s room. This kit also came with letters if you wish to spell something out like a child’s name or simple words like blocks to then attach on to the front of a basket that holds blocks.
